We make good kids better.

Who We Are

Our Journey

In 1875, a small group of kindhearted nuns created a special place dedicated to taking in and taking care of orphans and destitute children.

Nearly one hundred years later, their loving home merged with the Columbus Children’s Psychiatric Hospital. We evolved into a unique residential and daytime mental health and behavioral treatment center exclusively for children and youth.

Parents now had somewhere to turn for the all-day-ever-day guidance their children needed to reach their greatest potential. Children of all ages began to live with us or attend our school for as long as it took to heal and positively return to their lives.

By 2000, we became St. Vincent Family Center, a pediatric non-profit agency, and we extended expert behavioral health care services beyond our doorstep. Counselors traveled to homes, schools, and to other community organizations to ensure we could reach and connect to families where they needed us most.

2015 marked another special moment – the opening of our warm, inviting Therapeutic School Wing. This 20,000 square-foot state-of-the-art center features 17 roomy classrooms filled with the latest technology such as smart boards and computer tablets, natural lightning, observation rooms, sensory rooms – all the amenities ideal to helping special kids learn how to think and succeed at school, home and in life.

The beautiful new wing allows us to open our doors and our hearts to nearly 50% more children while still offering intensely personal care. Two uniquely qualified specialists work with nine students, a teach-to-child ratio proven to be ideal for every child to thrive.

Enter our beautiful facility today and find the same compassion, understanding and devotion exhibited by our founders. Only now, we are also one of Ohio’s best pediatric behavioral health care providers, working closely with families and caregivers to help children who struggle with a wide range of mental health and behavioral challenges.

St. Vincent Family Center serves 3,000 families a year and more than 9 out of 10 of our kids acquire the skills they need to live their best life.

We love to make good kids better.
