Trauma

What Is It?

Exposure to violence, abuse, crime, loss of a loved one – the emotional upheaval associated with witnessing difficult events may leave lasting emotional scars on children.

How many kids
are affected?

The American Psychological Association reports that as many as two-thirds of all children are exposed to at least one traumatic event by age 16. However, in most instances, it is repeated exposure to trauma that results in long-term behavioral health issues.

How do I Know?

Kids coping with trauma often act out in anger, experience repeated nightmares, express separation anxiety (especially younger children), lose interest in school and other activities and are depressed. Helping your child recover trauma can not only restore their mental health but also give them greater resiliency when future challenges arise.
