Grief

What Is It?

Loss of a loved one or an important relationship may spark a prolonged grief process that can lead to depression and/or anxiety.

How many kids
are affected?

According to a survey conducted by the National Adolescent and Youth adult Health Information Center, 90% of high school juniors and seniors said they had experienced the death of a loved one.

How do I Know?

It may be helpful to seek outside counseling any time a child is mourning the loss of a significant person as this can help them work through grief in a healthy way. Those who are struggling often can’t focus in school, are anxious about further loss and the safety of other family members, and display separation anxiety.
