Bipolar Disorder

What Is It?

Experiencing frequent “highs” (manic) and “low” (depressive) moods so extreme that interfere with regular activities. Symptoms in the manic phase range from restlessness and irritability to poor judgment and a sense of invincibility. Depressive episodes may be filled with sadness, anxiety and low energy.

How many kids
are affected?

An estimated 3.1-7% of young Americans, ages 15-29.

How do I Know?

It can be difficult to detect the difference between a “normal, moody” child and one struggling with bipolar disorder. Look carefully at how extreme, frequent and debilitating your child’s mood swings seem.
