COMMUNITY PSYCHIATRIC SUPPORTIVE TREATMENT

(View the brochure - PDF)
SVFC Community Support Services program has two components: Intensive Community Support Services (ICSS) and Community Support Services (CSS). Both components provide mental health and case management services to families with children ages 2-18 (age 21 if considered to have a disability) who experience difficulty adapting to school, difficulty in the home, have poor coping skills, and have mental, emotional, and /or behavioral disturbances. The difference between CSS and ICSS is that children in the intensive program have been assessed as high risk. High risk means that the child's and/or the parent's behavior is so severe that the child is at risk of being removed from the home or has already been removed from the home. High risk families receive more frequent and intensive services than other families. The goal of the program is to help the child and family learn to manage their behavior so the child will be able to live at home and succeed in school.

Admission Criteria

Admission criteria generally include one or more of following:

History of hospitalization

Inability to maintain home and/ or school placement

A need for coordination of services and/ or advocacy

Diagnosis of a mental disorder

History of academic underachievement

Dysfunctional peer/ family relations

History of problems with authority

Family is unable to self-manage the child

This program accepts children ages 5-1/2 to12 years whose behavior is a serious danger to themselves or others either at home or in the community and is the most intensive program offered by the agency. In order to be accepted for care, the family must demonstrate that they have tried less intensive interventions and that they have not been successful. The family must also participate in therapy sessions with the child. The residence is closely supervised 24 hours a day but is not a locked facility. Children who qualify for admission are very seriously disturbed and have uncontrollable behaviors. Generally the child exhibits some type of violent or self-destructive behavior and is considered a safety risk to self or others.
